“It’s the economy, stupid!” – this was the slogan of U.S. presidential candidate Bill Clinton in 1992. What he meant was the importance of economic processes for all areas of society. For some the market is the best possible means of governing modern states, for others it is evil incarnate. We talk about the power and sensibility of the markets, of free and fair trade. The current economic system of “unfettered capitalism” has come under criticism. How exactly does “the system” work? Can it actually be made to align with ideas of justice? Is free trade even compatible with a free society?

GUESTS Prof. Dr. Heiner Flassbeck (freelance economic researcher and author), Prof. Dr. Martina Metzger (Professor of Monetary Economics, Berlin School of Economics and Law)
MODERATOR Simon Berger
