Embark on an exploratory journey to one of the most beautiful experiences that has always been part of us humans and connects us to the world: music.

Between the oldest verifiable human musical instrument, the bone flute, and today’s scientific measuring instruments, a “laboratory” is being created in the theater hall of the Neuköllner Oper, where experiments will be conducted together. The WUNDERKAMMER “Music in the Head” uses live music – from Gustav Mahler and Lili Boulanger to jazz and improvisation – to focus on personal music perception, and on the other hand, the possibilities and also the limits of current neuroscience and its measurements can be experienced here. What happens in the mind and body when listening to and playing music? How is music processed in the brain, and how can feelings triggered by music be made measurable and, not least, representable?
The evening will be accompanied by leading experts from the realms of science and music: the neuroscientist, physician and concert flutist Prof. Dr. Eckart Altenmüller, Dr. Daniel Miklody and Prof. Dr. Benjamin Blankertz from the research project Berlin Brain Computer Interface (TU Berlin), the mezzo-soprano Merlind Pohl and the composer, pianist and synesthete Christopher Verworner.
