The solo exhibition “Eye to Eye” by artist Veronika Veit (born in Munich in 1968) takes as its subject the life situation of man in a society defined by media processes. Veit’s work raises the question as to what extent modern man has traded in faith and the capacity for spiritual experience for the virtual reality of the media.
The exhibition is on view at the Church of St. John the Evangelist in Auguststrasse in Berlin-Mitte. For her installation, Veit transformed the church interior into a course of sculptures and computer animations that can be aesthetically experienced by the visitor. It is this very interplay of sculptural and digital art, consciously juxtaposed against a sacred background, that highlights the connections between a virtual fantasy world and reality.
Veronika Veit’s new, large-scale installation is impressive both in content because of its focused reflection of human existence and form because of its unusual combination of traditional sculpture and multimedia elements. It is with great conviction and enthusiasm that the Schering Stiftung supports this exhibition. To promote pathbreaking and outstanding young artists is the focus of our arts promotion program and something the Foundation cares about deeply. The exhibition “Eye to Eye” is an important step for the promising young artist Veronika Veit towards enhancing her national reputation and putting her on the road to international recognition.
