ScheringPlus supports outstanding doctoral candidates and “young” postdocs (up to two years after their doctorate) in the life sciences in Berlin and Brandenburg who are open to look beyond traditional disciplinary or methodological boundaries and expanding their horizons. The program aims to strengthen the creativity and independence of the next generation of scientists and promote their career paths.
The central selection criterion is academic expertise, demonstrated through excellent exams, (initial) publications, a statement from the supervisor, and the quality of the presentation and understanding of the research project.
Based on their outstanding academic excellence, young scientists are particularly supported to broaden their horizons with a wide interest in topics, disciplines, and techniques. Criteria for this include, for example:
The fellowships have a duration of three years. Funding includes up to EUR 12,000 in total for individual research support and networking. The funds can be used flexibly for research stays, conference attendance, further training, event organization, procurement of research materials, data collection, open-access publications, and activities in science communication.
In addition to financial support, the fellows are supported through at least one annual in-person meeting to facilitate networking and communication among themselves, along with training opportunities. The networking meetings are a mandatory part of the fellowship program.
The ScheringPlus Fellowship is NOT intended to cover living expenses. These must be financed through employment at a university / research institution, another scholarship, or other sources of funding.
The Schering Stiftung awards up to 12 Schering Plus Fellowships per year.
