Since 2008, the Schering Stiftung has been acquiring drawings and prints by international artists working in or connected to Berlin for the Berlin Museum of Prints and Drawings. The works are on permanent loan to the State Museums of Berlin.

In 2013, the acquired art works were presented to the public for the first time in the exhibition “System and Sensuality. The Schering Stiftung Collection – Contemporary Art from Tom Chamberlain to Jorinde Voigt” at the Berlin Museum of Prints and Drawings.

With this cooperation, the Schering Stiftung pursues its goal of providing long-term support to contemporary artists and making their works accessible to a larger public. In addition, the collaboration should ensure that the current international art production in Berlin will be sufficiently represented in the state collections despite modest acquisition budgets.

In 2023, the 15th anniversary of the successful collaboration between the Kupferstichkabinett and the Schering Stiftung was celebrated with an anniversary exhibition.

Since 2006, the Schering Stiftung also has an art collection which comes from the Foundation’s corporate donor, the Schering AG. The collection primarily contains works by Berlin artists. As early as the 1960s, Schering AG began to purchase and commission works of art. During the take-over of Schering AG by Bayer AG in 2006, a part of the then existing art collection, together with the company museum, was transferred to the Schering Stiftung as an endowment contribution.
