Subject of data protection

The subject of data protection is your personal data. This involves all information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person. This covers information, such as name, postal address, email address or telephone number and, where applicable, user data, such as your IP address.

Scope of processing personal data

We only collect and use our users’ personal data if this is necessary to provide a functioning website as well as our contents and services. The collection and use of our users’ personal data is regularly only done with the users’ consent. An exception is in cases where prior consent cannot be obtained for practical reasons and where data processing is permitted by law.

Legal basis for processing personal data

If we obtain the consent of the data subject for processing personal data, Article 6 Para. 1 Lit. a EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) serves as the legal basis for processing personal data.

When processing personal data required for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is a party, Article 6 Para. 1 Lit. b GDPR serves as the legal basis. This also applies to processing required for executing precontractual measures.

If processing personal data is required to fulfil a legal obligation to which Schering Stiftung is subject, Article 6 Para. 1 Lit. c GDPR serves as the legal basis.

In the event that the vital interests of the data subject or another natural person make processing personal data necessary, Article 6 Para. 1 Lit d GDPR serves as the legal basis.

If processing is necessary to safeguard a legitimate interest of Schering Stiftung or a third party and if the interests, fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject do not outweigh the first-mentioned interest, Article 6 Para. 1 Lit. f GDPR serves as the legal basis for processing.

Date deletion and storage duration

The personal data of the data subject is deleted or blocked as soon as the purpose for storage ceases to exist. Furthermore, data may be stored if this has been provided for by the European or national legislator in EU regulations, laws or other provisions to which Schering Stiftung is subject. The data will also be blocked or deleted if a storage period prescribed by the aforementioned standards expires unless there is a need for further storage of the data for the conclusion or fulfilment of a contract.

Collection, storage and use of data in detail

Each time the Schering Stiftung website is visited and each time a file is accessed, data about this process is automatically logged and saved as “server log files”. This includes:

  • the IP address used by you
  • the website visited and the link from which you reached the website
  • sites you click on
  • the date, time and length of your visit
  • the volume of data sent in bytes
  • the browser used by you
  • the operating system used by you

Data is stored in log files to ensure the functionality of the website. We also use this data to optimise the website and ensure the security of our IT systems.

The data is deleted as soon as it is no longer necessary for achieving the purpose of its collection (after 7-14 days at the latest). The log files are evaluated exclusively for statistical purposes, personal reference cannot be made. Further processing and evaluation will not take place.

Personal data that you disclose to Schering Stiftung when you visit our website and, for example, order the newsletter, make enquiries to us and use our offers, will be processed by us. Data processing notably includes the collection, organisation, sorting, storage and use of personal data. We comply with the provisions of the German Federal Data Protection Act, the Telemedia Act and any other applicable data protection provisions.

This data is only collected for the purpose of sending you the newsletter and, if applicable, topic-related emails and to document our authorisation concerning this matter. You can cancel your subscription to the newsletter or the topic-related emails and your consent to the storage of your email address and other personal data that you may have voluntarily provided (e.g. first name and surname) at any time by using the appropriate link in the email or by sending us a message. Photos, films and audiovisual recordings

For documentation purposes, photos or film and sound recordings may be made at Schering Stiftung events, such as award ceremonies, exhibition openings or lecture evenings. Schering Stiftung uses these in the context of its media coverage as well as for its general press and public relations work, e.g. on its website, on social media and the print media of Schering Stiftung. Furthermore, the material for the public relations work of Schering Stiftung can be passed on to other media as press information. You have the right to object to the production of photos, videos and sound recordings concerning you at the event and to their use.

Use of Facebook social plug-ins

Our website uses Facebook social plug-ins, which are operated by Facebook Inc. (1 Hacker Way, Menlo Park, California 94025, USA). The embedded plug-ins can be recognised by the Facebook logo or by the terms “like” and “share” in the Facebook colours (blue and white). You will find information on all Facebook plug-ins using the following link: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/

The plug-in establishes a direct connection between your browser and the Facebook servers. Schering Stiftung has no influence whatsoever on the nature and extent of the data that the plug-in transmits to the Facebook Inc. servers and therefore provides information to its users according to its level of knowledge.

The plug-in informs Facebook Inc. that you are a user of this website. In doing so, there is a possibility that your IP address will be stored. If you are logged into your Facebook account while visiting our website, the information will be linked to that Facebook account. If you use the functions of the plug-in, for example, by sharing or “liking” a post, the corresponding information is also transmitted to Facebook Inc.

If you want to prevent Facebook Inc. from linking this data with your Facebook account, please logout of Facebook before visiting this website. If a user is not a Facebook member, it is still possible for Facebook to obtain and store their IP address.

Use of Twitter buttons

We use Twitter buttons on our website. These are operated by Twitter Inc. (795 Folsom St., Suite 600, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). If you share a page using one of these buttons, a direct connection is established between your browser and the Twitter servers. Schering Stiftung therefore has no influence whatsoever on the nature and extent of the data that the plug-in transmits to the Twitter Inc. servers. According to Twitter Inc. only your IP address is collected and stored. You will find information on how personal data is handled by Twitter Inc. here: https://twitter.com/privacy?lang=de

Provision of YouTube videos

On our website we provide videos that can be accessed via a YouTube channel. As soon as you access YouTube on our website, your browser will establish a direct connection with Google’s servers. The plug-in content will be transmitted from YouTube directly to your browser and then integrated into the website. Schering Stiftung therefore has no influence on the scope of data that Google collects using the plug-in.

Use of Google Maps

Our website uses the Google Maps API to visually represent geographic information. When Google Maps is used, Google also collects, processes and uses data on the use of the map functions by visitors to the website. Please refer to Google’s data privacy notice (https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=de) for more information on data processing by Google. You can change your personal settings and manage and protect your information in Google’s Privacy Centre. If the do-not-track feature is enabled in the browser, no external Google Maps content will be loaded without permission.
