Digital Salon

Smart robot hands, artificial legs, printable organs: Are implants the panacea of the future? Where does 3D printing lead us, and what are the legal consequences?
As part of a monthly discussion series the “Digital Salon,” the invited guests grapple with questions of our digitally connected world. They look at Internet phenomena, discuss the pros and cons of technological changes, and provide food for thought.

With the support of the Ernst Schering Foundation, the HIIG organizes a total of four special programs on the topic of “Human Health in the Digital Age.” Digitization affects every area of life, including health: personalized medicine through genetic testing, customized medical prostheses from the 3D printer, and nursing robots are only three examples. The HIIG’s Digital Salon aims to discuss and critically evaluate these developments and their ethical and social implications. The Digital Salon is a collaboration of the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) and Kooperative Berlin.
