For the third time the Schering Stiftung supports the 25th European Students’ Conference. The aim of the conference is to discuss current opportunities and challenges of medical research. This year’s conference takes place on September 17–20 under the patronage of Dr. Johanna Wanka, Federal Minister of Education and Research, and Prof. Ernst Rietschel, Chairman of the Berlin Institute of Health.

More than 500 visitors from over 40 countries are expected to participate in the ESC’s expert lectures by renowned scientists, medical workshops, and extensive social program. In addition, the conference offers young scientists from all biomedical disciplines an opportunity to present their research findings to an expert jury and an international audience and to publish their work in the conference’s Abstract Book.

Speakers include:
Prof. Dr. Marianne Legato | Columbia University | Pioneer in the field of gender-specific medicine
Prof. Dr. Ulrich Dirnagl | Charité Berlin | Chief Executive Director of the Center for Stroke Research Berlin
Prof. Dr. Barry R. Bloom | Harvard University | Recipient of Robert Koch Medal 1999
Prof. Dr. John P. A. Ioannidis | Stanford University | Co-Director of the Stanford Meta-Research Innovation Center
Prof. Dr. Amit Meller | Boston University/ Technion – Israel Institute of Technology | Expert on single molecule biophysics & nano-biotechnology

The European Students’ Conference (ESC) was established in 1989 to facilitate and promote the scientific exchange between young scientists in Western and Eastern Europe. Held annually at the Charité for 25 years, the ESC has developed into one of the largest student-organized biomedical conferences worldwide.

The Ernst Schering Foundation supports the conference, because it makes an important contribution to the promotion and international networking of excellent young scientists.
