What makes this exhibition special is its focus on the use, exploration and arrangement of materials other than digital photo prints on paper. Water, glass, and metal convey the photographic memory spaces and are juxtaposed with sound installations. The exhibition evokes associative viewing spaces, but also uses the objects to explore concrete traces of memory that are directly linked to the history of the exhibition space, the Galerie unter Berlin (Gallery Below Berlin). Out of the synthesis of the visual and sound spaces on display, a new context for space and time is created in the vault.

Below the site of the Alte Königstadt (Saarbrücker Straße, corner of Straßburger Straße) lie the listed vaults of the former Königstadt brewery. huber&christen make the vaults come alive with their artistic and business concept and create an innovative art space: the Galerie unter Berlin. Their goal is to use the space for a regular event that brings together different artistic genres and creates a place for dialogue and exchange. The idea behind the event series – i.e. to risk an interdisciplinary dialogue at a historical site in Berlin as a changeable construct between performance and exhibition space – convinced the Schering Stiftung to support the project. The Galerie unter Berlin creates a meeting space and draws a connection between the past and contemporary art.
