The Schering Stiftung awards the physician and metabolism researcher Prof. Dr. Jens Claus Brüning the Ernst Schering Prize 2020, endowed with 50,000 euro, for his research on the identification of pathological processes in the development of insulin resistance in overweight and diabetes mellitus. The young scientist Dr. Florian Kahles will receive the €10,000 Friedmund Neumann Prize 2020 for his contribution to research on incretin as protective hormones in cardiovascular diseases.
Professor Brüning was nominated for the Ernst Schering Prize by Prof. Dr. Herbert Jäckle, the retired director of the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen. Florian Kahles was nominated for the Friedmund Neumann Prize by Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Marx, Director of the Medical Clinic I of University Hospital Aachen.
During the award ceremony, there will be a talk between the respective award winner and the nominee, during which the research performance and personal motivation of the award winner will be discussed. Prof. Dr. Stefan H.E. Kaufmann, Chairman of the Foundation Council of the Schering Stiftung will moderate the discussions and subsequently present the prizes to both award winners.
This year, the award ceremony will be held in a small circle without external guests at the Komische Oper Berlin. Interested parties are invited to follow the stream on the Foundation’s YouTube channel.
