In 2004, 2005 and 2006 the Schering Stiftung supported the C/O Junior project of C/O Berlin. In this project, educators and creative professionals in the fields of architecture, design and photography helped children and young people gain insights into different artistic areas in order to awaken their interest in visual-aesthetic structures and issues.
The children and teenagers could choose from a variety of workshops: During a photo safari in the city, for example, they learned about the choice of colors in the age of digital cameras and how to use the computer to further experiment with color and contrast. In another workshop, the focus was on designing your own chair; what was important was not only the design but also the sitting comfort and the fact that your ideas could in fact be realized. Another topic was fashion: During a museum visit, the workshop participants gathered impressions of fashion through the ages; afterwards they drew on their impressions and own ideas to design costumes that were then made with a variety of materials. The creations of the “young designers” were presented in a fashion show.
In all of these workshops the children were encouraged to visualize and create images of their world and surroundings, their fantasies and dreams. The activities were designed to promote their sensory development and skills, which are increasingly neglected nowadays because of the largely passive media consumption already at young age.
