“Efficiency” is the criterion of our society. “Will it pay off?“ is the all-dominant question, not only when it comes to money matters. Does every effort have to yield a return (like the fictitious film shooting in South America in Nico Dostal’s operetta Clivia)? Shouldn’t there be room for aesthetic inefficiency and profligacy? Especially in the theater?
