Perceiving, marveling, understanding – this is the motto of the exhibition “SinnReich,” which will be presented at the Ottobock Science Center Berlin, at the initiative of the Neurowissenschaftliche Gesellschaft e.V. (German Neuroscience Society). Visitors are provided a diverse offering of interactive exhibits around the topic of perception. They may see themselves grow from a dwarf into a giant, lose their balance, look deeply into their own eyes, or start to stammer. The exhibition expressly allows touching and testing in order for visitors to learn to understand how our senses function and how they are processed in our brain. The exhibition is suitable for children and youth grade 8 and older as well as for all curious big people.

The interactive exhibits are supplied by the Science Center Nuremberg, the “Turm der Sinne” (Tower of the Senses). The often incredible effects make tangible many of the mechanisms that the brain uses everyday to construct a plausible image of our environment without us being aware of these mechanisms. What becomes clear is that perceiving is an active process and is influenced by a number of factors such as individual experiences, (sub)conscious expectations, and prior knowledge.

The German Neuroscience Society organizes the exhibition on the occasion of the FENS Forum 2018 in Berlin, the largest neuroscience meeting in Europe.
