Climate change or the disappearance of the ozone hole, species extinction or the return of the wolf – no matter what natural events we are talking about, we quickly see mankind in a direct causal relationship to the event under discussion. It is no accident that geologists have named the most recent era after man: anthropocene. But are we really so important, so central to the biological, geological, and atmospheric changes on this planet? Is our talking about, and acting in, nature perhaps just an expression of the anthropocentrism that has defined Western thought since the Middle Ages? What are the consequences of challenging this anthropocentrism?

GUESTS Prof. em. Dr. Wolfgang Welsch (anthropologist and cultural philosopher, University of Jena), Prof. Dr. Reinhold Leinfelder (paleontologist and geobiologist, FU Berlin)
