January 01 – December 31, 2020
Standortwechsel is a residency program for Berlin artists or collectives who are themselves affected by exclusion or who cooperate with disadvantaged groups. The Berlinische Galerie and Jugend im Museum invite them to work together at the museum over the course of a year and to contribute their perspectives.
The intention of the public art action is to gather new voices in the exhibition space and to bring people into conversation. Standortwechsel is a space of solidarity about how we can live social inclusion in the art museum.
In 2020, the open girls’ film club of Mpower e.V. resides in the Berlinische Galerie. Every Friday afternoon, starting at 4:30 p.m., girls ages 12 and up meet to conceive and realize films together. Mpower is a project that aims to promote individual educational and professional opportunities for girls and young women with refugee and migration experience(s) and to open up a participatory space in which new networks can form.
Inspired by the collection and exhibitions at the Berlinische Galerie and supported by artists and art educators, different film techniques are learned and tried out. The meetings are intended as a space for solidarity-based action that questions various topics such as art and media, the potential of museums as places of social cohesion, identity issues, images of women and women’s rights, and political education. The program is open to girls with and without basic filmmaking skills.
