For her outstanding research on her discovery that glial brain cells function as stem cells and can generate nerve cells Prof. Dr. Magdalena Götz is awarded with the Ernst Schering Prize 2014. The 50,000-euro prize is one of the most prestigious German science awards. For her outstanding work in the field of phosphatase research and for her interdisciplinary approach, combining basic research in chemistry and biology to address questions relevant to medicine Dr. Maja Köhn is awarded with the Friedmund Neumann Price 2014. The Ernst Schering Stiftung awards the 10,000-euro prize to young scientists who have done outstanding basic research in human biology, organic chemistry or human medicine and who have already developed a distinctive scientific profile since completing their dissertation.
