The theater lab at the Komödie am Kurfürstendamm enters the second round. “The Totally Crazy Time Machine!” is a theater project for children aged 6 to 12.
The project especially targets children from difficult socio-economic backgrounds. It wants to make it possible for them to participate in Berlin’s cultural life. The plays deal, among other things, with the lives and works of famous scientists in history. In “The Totally Crazy Time Machine!,” the children, who traveled with a time machine to the past, met pioneering female scientists such as Ada Lovelace, Marie Curie, Vera Rubin, and Inge Lehmann. This way, the children are to be exposed to scientific and historical topics and get to know major scientists and their discoveries. Moreover, they learn to perform and gain insights into the processes of modern-day theater operations.
As part of the selection process of the child actors, the project’s initiators cooperate with the children’s foundation “Die Arche,” or more specifically with their support center in Berlin-Wedding. The foundation was founded in 1995 in Berlin-Hellersdorf and combats child poverty in Germany. At all support centers operated by “Die Arche,” children and young people receive a warm lunch, can get help with their homework and find a place to play and romp about.
The one-year workshop concluded with a theatrical performance, which in 2024 took place at Heimathafen Neukölln.”The Totally Crazy Time Machine!” was created in cooperation with drama teachers Anna Ortmann and Baharah Karimi.
