The project is aimed in particular at children from difficult socio-economic backgrounds. The aim is to enable them to participate in Berlin’s cultural life. On the one hand, children who have little contact with scientific and historical topics are to be familiarized with Alexander von Humboldt’s natural research, his understanding of nature and his adventurous journeys such as the expedition to the Orinoco or the ascent of the Chimborazo. On the other hand, the children learn to perform and gain insight into the processes of a modern theater company.

The initiators of the project work in its initial phase, especially during the selection process of the participants, with representatives of the children’s foundation “Die Arche” (The Ark), which was founded in 1995 in Berlin-Hellersdorf and is committed to the fight against child poverty in Germany. In concrete terms, there is close cooperation with the Arche staff at the Wedding site. Around 80 children and young people are regularly provided with a warm lunch at this location and use the place to do their homework and play.

At the end of the year-long workshop, three theater performances are to take place in the premises of the Komödie am Kurfürstendamm at the Schiller Theater. Before that, performances at smaller events are already planned.
