Published in 2006, for grades 5 and 6, in cooperation with the Institute of Chemistry Education at the University of Duisburg-Essen
As part of her dissertation at the Chair for the Teaching of Chemistry at the University of Duisburg-Essen Regina Hübinger developed with support from the Schering Stiftung teaching materials for Integrated Science Curriculum that help to maintain and increase a scientific interest in children grade 5 and 6. During their first school years, children can easily get excited about scientific topics. But when electricity becomes flowing electrons and the green of the leaves is suddenly called chlorophyll, many pupils lose interest.
Therefore it is important to be able to use the learned material and to understand the interconnections. After all, it is pure physics when a plant bursts through the soil in spring, pure chemistry when it beguiles insects with its smell and pure biology when it produces its seeds.
