Do Our Eyes Communicate?

Not infrequently, we use expressions such as “at first sight,” “saving face” or “losing one’s face.” Insights into the role that the visual sense plays in non-verbal communication thus permeate our language. But is our view of the world really an objective one, or is what we see rather a construct of our brain? And what challenges do we face when communicating with machines?

These and other questions will be discussed by Michael Bach, Professor of Functional Vision Research at the Eye Center of the Medical Center of the University of Freiburg, Brigitte Falkenburg, Professor of Theoretical Philosophy at the Technical University of Dortmund, and the artist Moritz Wehrmann. The discussion will be moderated by the journalist Katja Weber from radioeins/rbb.

The event is part of Brain Awareness Week Berlin 2019, an international campaign to increase public awareness about the progress and benefits of brain research.
