September 16, 2016, 3 p.m.
The lectures will be in English.
The Integrative Research Institute for the Life Sciences (IRI) at Berlin’s Humboldt University presents a lecture on vaccinations by Prof. Dr. Lothar H. Wieler, director of the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin, and PD Dr. Cornelia Betsch from the University of Erfurt. The speakers will look at the willingness to get vaccinated and the global consequences of individual vaccination decisions.
Prof. Dr. Lothar H. Wieler will talk about vaccination rates in Germany and the key mechanisms of vaccinations as well as about the refusal of vaccination and the emergence of infectious diseases that are vaccine-preventable. The cases of vaccination against HPV and Measles in Germany will be discussed in more detail and some of the current challenges will be outlined.
Dr. Cornelia Betsch will look at the topic from a psychological perspective by explaining that understanding the determinants of individual vaccination decisions is crucial in order to establish
effective strategies to support the success of country-specific public health policies.
The lectures will be followed by a workshop with the speakers. Natural scientists, psychologists and sociologists are invited to participate in a debate on vaccination. The aim is to gain a better and deeper understanding of the research in the various disciplines and identify areas of cooperation. If you are interested in participating in the workshop, please contact Dr. Stefanie Scharf | Scientific Coordinator at the IRI | stefanie.scharf@hu-berlin.de | www.iri-lifesciences.de
The event is part of a lecture series called “Interdisciplinary Dialogue” at the IRI. Supported by the Schering Stiftung, the public lectures by internationally renowned visiting scientists provide young scientists from a variety of disciplines and institutions with an opportunity to engage in an interdisciplinary conversation in order to explore commonalities and differences and develop collaborative and innovative research approaches.
