Art encounters at Elementary schools in Brandenburg

Date:

January 01 – December 31, 2021

In 2021, the Schering Stiftung supports as part of the program Max – Artists in Residence at schools the residences of Christoph Medicus at Evangelische Schule Neuruppin and of Anne Mundo at Grundschule an der Hasenheide together with Schule im Nibelungenviertel in Bernau.

At the three Brandenburg elementary schools, access to aesthetic education in rural areas has been opened up in recent years through the studios. According to personal reports, this is a great benefit for the students and their families as well as the school staff. Numerous students are reached who otherwise have difficulty in participating in art and culture.

The “Program Max – Artists in Residence at Brandenburg Schools” is a program of the Plattform Kulturelle Bildung Brandenburg on the initiative of the Stiftung Brandenburger Tor and is funded by the Brandenburg Ministry of Science, Research and Culture and the Schering Stiftung.

The Plattform Kulturelle Bildung Brandenburg is a division of the Brandenburgische Gesellschaft für Kultur und Geschichte gGmbH, which is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture and the state capital Potsdam.

The Artists

Anne Mundo is a 2016 artist-in-residence in the program. In the studio she paints, calligraphs with Chinese ink, crafts and colors. Free work is particularly important here. In the current school year, the students will get to know original writings with her and practice the basics of ink painting on the basis of these. They will find their own themes with this means of expression and expand the artistic focus from paper into space and collaborative work.

Christoph Medicus combines objects, examines materials for their semantic possibilities, and delights in situational coincidences and installative encounters. These never-quite-completed processes of discovery are accompanied by an exploration of the limits of craftsmanship.
