Rents in Germany have been rising continually: Today, citizens on average pay 30 percent more for their apartments than in 2010. In cities like Berlin or Munich, housing prices have even increased by up to 70 percent. And yet, more and more people are moving to the cities, despite an existing shortage of some 1.9 million apartments for low-income earners. What will the future development of the housing market look like? Will prices continue to rise or are we in the midst of a speculative bubble? How can we respond to gentrification and the housing shortage? These questions will be addressed by the platform “The Debate“ online at www.die-debatte.org and live on May 31, 2018, at the Haus der Wissenschaft in Braunschweig. Join us for the discussion!
