The flood of media images paradoxically diminishes our experiences of the world. What if we looked at our world, which is dominated by the dictate of the visual, from the perspective of blindness? “WUNDERKAMMER: World Without Images” takes us into everday life experiences, music, and scientific knowledge.

In cultural history, myths, and philosophy, the loss of sight signifies access to a particular form of knowledge, providing humans with insights into worlds otherwise hidden to them. What do blind people have to say about that? What does their world look like – and could their experiences expand or deepen our “visual relationship” to the world? Learning to see in complete darkness presupposes a creative act of making the world anew, where the perceiving person is also the creator. This challenges our daily coordinates of self and world. What role does identity play? How do memory and desire work without images? What values are important in a world without images? Could these experiences and insights help us achieve a different, perhaps more respectful relationship with others and the world?

With Prof. Dr. Dino Capovilla (Uni Würzburg), Dr. Roland Zimmermann (HU Berlin), Fanny Däuper and Miguel Pérez Iñesta (musical direction, clarinet) as well as other members of the ZAFRAAN Ensemble.
